A Quiet Labor Day Weekend Backpacking Trip

A holiday weekend trip to Siamese Ponds Wilderness.

A Quiet Labor Day Weekend Backpacking Trip

September 5-6th, 2020

Greg and I wanted a quiet holiday weekend backpacking trip, which is getting harder to find on official trails in the Adirondacks.

However, with a bit of research, we found Siamese Ponds Wilderness and arrived to a mostly empty lot around 9:30AM. We saw a couple of people on their way out as we began the easy hike in to the Sacandaga Leanto.

Stopped to explore the river bank

The weather was beautiful!

We took our time on the hike in to enjoy the scenery. Before long, we had made it the four miles to the leanto and suspension bridge.

We read the leanto book and ate a lunch of ramen.

We left our packs at the leanto and headed another two miles down the trail to check out the Siamese Ponds themselves.

The ponds were pretty, with about another half dozen campsites located nearby. We started heading back to the leanto as the winds began to pick up. We made it back in time to take shelter from the rain.

Someone had even gathered firewood for us while we were gone! I think it was the fishermen we had met earlier nearby.

We waded knee deep into the river, ate dinner, listened to downloaded spooky crime podcast episodes, and went to bed.

The hike out the next day was peaceful, but damp from the morning dew.
