The upper trailhead has a very small lot, so definitely do your best to arrive super early (or maybe late, for a sunset hike). There's additional parking at the lower trailhead, but it adds elevation gain to your hike.

A lot of people also park along the forest service road when the upper lot is full (which is legal), but the road is very narrow. It can be hard to find a good spot and some late arrivals definitely added some mileage to their hike. Be careful driving out because the cars lining the road essentially make it a one lane road in some tight spots.

This trail is popular, especially since it's one of the first peaks to dry out in the spring. Luckily, I arrived at 7AM and snagged one of the last spots in the lot.

I was alone for the first few hours of my hike. The morning was quiet and peaceful and I spent it thinking about mountain lions.

The trail has a 20% grade for the first three miles and the switchbacks feel steep and unrelenting. Luckily, the views are worth it.

Finally reaching the summit ridge is magical. The trail grade finally flattens out and I couldn't stop myself from running to the top!

Enjoy the well-earned summit views but watch out for the thieving chipmunk.

I enjoyed the summit for a while and took a bunch of photos before deciding to run down. I passed a ton of groups on my way out, but everyone was kind and happy to be outside!

My legs were sore after running such a steep downhill grade, but it was a fun way to end the day. This hike would make a great sunrise or sunset!
