Sunset on Cascade Mountain in the Adirondacks
January 2021 trip report
Just after 3PM on Friday, January 8th, I began my trail run up Cascade Mountain. There wasn't much snow, so I only needed microspikes.
I had planned on waking up early to day hike this mountain, but good thing I overslept! It was an incredible day for a sunset hike.
Not far from the summit, I passed a hiker on her way up for the sunset as well. We chatted during the sunset and decided to hike down together in the dark. Her name was Abby and her company was a lot of fun!
This was an amazing day and I'm glad I still decided to get outside, despite my late start. The views were great and the trail conditions were perfect for winter trail running. There still wasn't that much snow at this point in the season (early January) so I was able to wear my trail runners and eventually spikes. It wasn't even too cold or windy on the summit, but I definitely added a few more layers in order to enjoy the sunset.
