The Ultimate Sport Climbing Packing List
After the success of my "The Ultimate Backpacking Packing List" post, which I've used to prevent myself and our friends from forgetting things on backpacking trips, and with some recent sport climbing trips where I've forgotten some gear, it's time to make a sport climbing packing list!
Mandatory gear:
- Rope, check if it'll be long enough for the intended routes.
- Harnesses
- Helmets
- Climbing Shoes
- Belay / Rappel devices for everyone
- Third hand / prussik cord for everyone. Used for rappels & rescues
- Quickdraws, bring enough +2 for the intended routes
- Mountain Project app w/ area downloaded and pictures loaded for routefinding
- Chalkbag
- Personal tether and/or a 120cm sling, can double as anchor material. Plus a couple locking carabiners.
- Water
- Snacks / Lunch
- First Aid Kit
- Headlamp
- Jacket / Windbreaker
Optional / situational gear:
- Sun & Bug protection
- Rope bag / tarp, to keep the rope clean
- Guidebook
- Stick Clip
- Locking quickdraw for an opposite & opposed quickdraw anchor setup
- Alpine quickdraws to reduce rope drag on wandering routes
- Crack Gloves
- Kneepad
